The Brettzel
By Sandy Sommer RKC on in Featured Articles, Training Tips & Tricks
I first heard about the Brettzel when I received my copy of Kettlebells From The Ground Up The Kalos Sthenos. I tried it but it wasn’t easy and so I stopped doing it. Great idea:)
A few months later at the Delaware Kettlebell Workshop that Dr. Mark Cheng, RKC Team Leader, did at St. Andrews School, he taught it and I had an “ah ha!” moment and have been doing them ever since.
Here’s what I can report to you: The Brettzel is merciless and you will quickly uncover any asymmetries, immobilities and tightness in your quadriceps, hip flexor, glutes, lumbar and piriformis. Don’t move through pain on this one. I couldn’t even get a full stretch at first because I was so bound up.I have pretty good movement through the Brettzel now but wish I’d taped the first few trys at it. I can assure you that there is more than a good chance that you can do it quite a bit better than I could at the start.

Welcome Rannoch! I’ve had a bunch of folks ask about it and thought I would post it. I’ve really enjoyed the benefit of it. How are things in Scotland?

Sandy,
how often do you practice it? had this shown to me a few months ago by an RKCII. pretty comical at first.

I do it 6 days a week. Both inside my workout and as a post workout stretch. Have you had some results with it?

Only just had a chance to look at this Sandy, as no internet access on holiday last week. This looks like a fantastic move for me as I have tight hip flexors and also piriformis issues. Will definitely incorporate it into my workout when I get back to training on Monday. Will let you know ho I get on. Thanks!

Hi Sandy, Chuzzy suggested I take a look at your video because the Brettzel is part of my new program. Thanks this really helps- but I can see I’ve got some way to go to move as well as you do.
