Have You Worked on 2010 Goals Yet?

We have 11 days until we hit the New Year 2010 so I figured I’d share training goals with you. Remember the goals need to be S.M.A.R.T (See below)

S = Specific
M = Measurable
A = Attainable
R = Realistic
T = Timely

Please leave your top training goal for 2010 in the comment area. I want to see what we all have in common! Here’s my list:

  1. Deadlift 2.5 times my bodyweight. Today, I’d need to hit 457 pounds. I  will accomplish this in September 2010. Current max is 335 pounds.
  2. Barbell press 180 pounds. I will accomplish this in June 2010. 135 is current max.
  3. Do a 1 set max of 20 tactical pull ups. Max is 10 now. Will get to 20 in Septemember 2010.
  4. Be able to press the Beast (48 kg kettlebell) by December 2010. Max 1 rep press for the kettlebell is njow stuck at 40 kg.
  5. Be able to complete Secret Service Snatch test with minimum of 200 24 kg kettlebell snatches in 10 minutes by December 2010. At this point, I’ve never done the SSST. Max for RKC snatch test is currently 115 reps.

All these are fairly long term, as the one we get to quickest is June. I can assure you that I have benchmarks between now and each one of these goals is already done in my mind. Follow my progress. I’ll be acccountable to me and you. Why not be accountable to me as well?

Train with purpose,

Sandy Sommer, RKC

    I know it’ll sound simplistic (and generic), but my 1 and only fitness goal for the year is being fully prepared to handle what the RKC throws at me in April. After that, I can get more specific like your goals list. Good luck and keep up the great work!

    Scott,

    The RKC does require (for most folks) laser like focus so that is a commendable goal. The fitter you are the more you will learn. There is a lot in 3 days and the better you can focus mentally the more enjoyable the weekend.

    I have a lot of goals, but these are the ones that matter. lol

    -Pistol squat 20kg by mid year.
    -swing 28kg for 5 mins
    -get my resting HR to 50-60bpms steady. Current 60-70
    -Complete Pavel Tsatsouline’s Rite of Passage officially.
    -Compete in at least one kettlebell competition.

    Also if I may add,
    Why do we have to wait until new years to make these kinds of plans ? Im actively trying to get these done =D I was going to blog about the “New Year’s Resolution” project thing..I think change should come now =D

    Great stuff. Interesting to see what you are looking to accomplish and I agree that the new year shouldn’t mean much!

    My goals for 2010:

    -Be able to do 1 or more butt to floor pistols with no weight as an aid.
    -Be able to do 1 or more one armed press ups.
    -Clean and press 32kg, current 1 rep max is 25kg on right, 20kg on left.
    -Reverse bend a 150 x 6mm thick nail
    -Pinch lift 25kg, current max is about 16kg

    I have many things I want to complete this next year in many areas, it all boils down to being stronger and tougher and in better shape than ever before, and especially working on my grip strength.

    Great goals Kris! I’d include a realistic date to really get your geared up. I know that’s going to make it so there is no doubt.

    Sandy, I also want to do a heavy barbell press of 170 by July. I am trying a kb clean and press workout of pavel’s. What are you using?

    Todd,

    Currently doing some barbell work using a periodization grid that Marty Gallagher came up with for me. I will be posting results here from time to time.

    I like how you state you “will” get your goals. Nice

    Dale,

    I find that language and how we use it is vital to success and obviously you agree!

    Having changed job and moved house in the last 9 months my focus is not as good as it was. So one goal this year is to re-focus.
    I can clean and press 16kg on some occasions and not others so confidence and consistency with this move.
    Also to finally nail the TGU to Chuzzy’s uncompromising standard and move onwards and upwards with this move too. I was doing well with kettlebell inc’s Christmas TGU challenge but have developed a wrist and elbow problem with my right arm so need to rest and get back to this in the new year.

    Buck,

    Thanks for sharing. I need to pick up “Never Let Go!” Velocity sure looks interesting. We’ve been following the Primal Blueprint since August with fairly astounding results. Check it out and let me know what you think. Great goals by the way:)
