Training Week in Review, October 3, 2009

This week is a new beginning. I finished the Tactical Strength Challenge last weekend and while my results weren’t exactly as I had hope they are mine and I own them. I will continue to train for functional strength using kettlebells and bodyweight movements with some sprint training for good measure.

  • Monday-Tested my Kettlebell Clean and Press to see what my max load would be for 5 good tight repetions per side. I got 5 reps, left and right, with 32 kg kettlebell and finished with 130 swings using the 40 kg kettlebell.
  • Tuesday-Did 50 reps, sets of 10, of 32 kg kettlebell snatches and then a Tactical Pull Up ladder with 3 rungs x 3 ladders. Following Will Williams, Sr. RKC, Tactical Pull Up program. I felt great Tuesday.
  • Wednesday- Kettlebell Clean and Press Ladders, 5 with 3 rungs, 60 reps total with 32 kg. 150 swings in 10 minutes with 40 kg. Felt very powerful but struggled at the end of swings. Was SO glad when I finished the tenth round!
  • Thursday- I’m taking two weeks off of dead lifting so I did 10 minutes of Turkish Get Up Practice. Really focused on a long chest and mobile t-spine. Felt as if I am continuing to improve the TGU.
  • Friday- 3 Pull Up ladder with 3 rungs, 18 reps total. 15 Minutes of Viking Warrior Conditioning. 30 work sets, 210 total snatches.
  • Saturday- 10 40 yard Stride outs in my Vibram Five Fingers. 10 20 yard dashes. 20 Sean Schneiderjan Pushups, 8 kettlebell pistols.

Great week of training. This was the first time in quite a while that I did sprints. Will be doing them weekly now.

Also purchased , The Primal Blue Print this week and will be offering up a review once I read it and digest.

I really like your focus on functional strength. Looks like you had a very good week. I’ve been sick lately, but I will get back to it soon. Good stuff, Sandy, good stuff.
