Progress on The Kettlebell Press
By Sandy Sommer RKC on in Sandy's Journal, Training Tips & Tricks
When I earned my RKC certification last October I wasn’t able to press the 32 kg kettlebell even once. Since then, I’ve worked, and worked hard, to get stronger.
I’ve spent a lot of effort on the Beast Challenge movements. I’ve gotten far more stable on the One legged Squat. My pressing power is such that I can do a deuce with the 40 kg and my pullups, once terrible, aren’t completely a source of embarrassment.
I will continue to work on my raw strength. My strength mentor, Marty Gallagher, has provided me a dead lift template that has allowed me to go from a “non dead lifter” to 3 sets of triples with 285 fairly quickly.
I’m going to take pause from the recent modified Rite of Passage work from Enter The Kettlebell and do strength work from the Power To the People. I will be doing the barbell side press as well as continue with my dead lifting.
I haven’t designed my whole program yet but I will continue to do my joint mobility work, PTTP, Tactical Pull Ups and start doing a lot of snatches for the Tactical Strength Challenge. The TSC is on September 26, 2009 and I will do the best I can. Everyday I try to get a little stronger and a little bit better.

Good progress, Sandy. I’ve yet to do more than a single with the 32kg, (and even then there’s a slight “jerk” to it) so I’ve got some feeling for just how much progress you have made to deucing the 40kg. Well done indeed.
Good luck with your training for the TSC
