Robert, I'm planning to do the HKC as well. My thinking is exactly the same as yours: I see this as a chance to work with some of the best trainers in the world and get that much closer to my eventual goal of becoming an RKC in 2010. I'm also hoping I will learn enough at the HKC to feel comfortable giving my personal training clients a taste of what kettlebells are all about, but I don't kid myself I will learn enough in one day to call myself a real kettlebell instructor. Clients who want more than a taste will get referred to an RKC! I'm actually hoping that the net effect of this new certification will be more business for RKCs, not less.

Liz you did read right. There would be a credit. And Robert I do hope you are correct. I hope that we don't see any dilution.

Speaking as someone who plans to attend the HKC. I've been involved with kettlebells only for a few months and decided I'd like to go for an RKC next year. I'm not ready for the RKC now but I will be next year.

Going to the HKC would give me a great opportunity to learn and satisfy my goal driven nature to have a closer checkpoint. As an added bonus it really puts my money where my mouth is and will drive me to be ready for the RKC.

Having the price of the HKC as credit toward the RKC is an added bonus providing me more time with the excellent trainers at the HKC (for "free" if I return for the RKC as planned).

I see the HKC as a great opportunity to bring more people into the fold and believe it will water down the RKC at least in part because the certification name is different enough than the established brand name of RKC (but I trust that those that pass the HKC will make all efforts to uphold the standards, I certainly will).

I think the thing I'm worried about the most, is people getting the HKC and then going out to teach people how to use kettlebells.

I'm thinking about the class, if I can get the money together, but like always I'm not going to hold my breath.

I know I'm not ready yet. This time next year, with my current workout plan for the year... Maybe, but depends on if I can keep it up, and if I have the money.

Chris, I did read that if you pursue RKC within one year of obtaining HKC, then you'll get the HKC fee deducted from your RKC fee.

This does sound interesting to me, Sandy! I'm certainly not going to be ready for RKC anytime soon, but might be interested in HKC over the near-term. Keep me posted!

it is well less than half the price. And it may water down the RKC if the new HKCs try to act like RKCs LOL. The goal is to expose people to "hardstyle" who don't have the confidence or fitness level to become an RKC but that this "taste" will serve to entice. I hope there aren't unintended consequences. Of that I am afraid:)
