How Do you Feel Today?

So many of us go through our daily lives feeling pretty “blah.” Are you one of these folks?

I know how you feel. I was living day to day and accomplishing a fair amount but doing so without huge amounts of energy in reserve. My workouts, both kettlebell and otherwise were fairly solid but I seemed to be missing something.

For one thing, my recovery ability between workouts seemed to be a bit slower than I liked and I wasn’t also feeling up to par. I dismissed it as getting older. Not so much it turned out.

So what did I do? Well the first thing I did was to clean up my diet. Got rid of all forms of processed sugar and really cut back on the carbs, especially anything that came in a package.

I was starting to really feel better and then my good friend Dr. Chris Hardy recommended two books to me. First one was Primal Blueprint and the second was Good Calories, Bad Calories. The former gave me a nutritional and lifestyle map and the latter really explained the scientific basis of the former.

The first thing that a lot of folks questions is the stance on grain. Well, I’m here to tell you that elimination of grain product, while not easy at first, pays huge huge dividends. Not only will you immediately feel better but you will also start to absorb nutrients much more efficiently. Perhaps even more important, you will generally produce less insulin and insulin is the key to weight management. High levels of insulin promotes fat storage and the diseases of civilization. In my humble opinion, we’ve been hoodwinked into thinking that grain is good. I can state with confidence that Big Ag and the USDA have clear agenda and one that isn’t in your best interest. Get off the grain.

Eat food you can source. Eat seasonally. Eat pastured food. Why would I buy Uruguayan grass fed beef when I can get it up the road in my own county? Eat eggs ( I promise they are good for you)

Feel better!

I think I am going to try it, but what about these?
    -potatoes
    -quinoa
    -brown rice
Without grain I will have to come up with some other snacks to eat during the day. Have any suggestions for “Primal” snacks that are easy to put in your pocket and take anywhere?

    Thanks Sandy,

  2. Chris,

I think you will love it and based on how “clean” you are currently eating there will be some adjustment period. For me the adjustment was substantial enough that I almost quit as my workout quality suffered at first. I was addicted to carb loading and it wasn’t easy to really mobilize fat as my preferred fuel. My workout quality as well as my general quality of life has dramatically improved.

A few reasons to avoid grain. Excessive insulin production. Inflammatory response. Fat storage….Immune suppression…The list doesn’t stop there. Quinoa isn’t technically a grain but doesn’t get off “scott free” from the potential hazards of grain. Better though.

White potatoes no good either though not a grain.

Snacking on raw (not roasted) nuts is what many of us do but your appetite will be a bit suppressed between meals for a variety of reasons. Snacking doesn’t seem to be a big desire once you are settled in to the fueling.

    Hope this helps,

We can get all the carbs you need from leafy greens and fruits.
